President Joe Biden strongly condemned the shooting, emphasizing the unprecedented nature of such violence in the country. He called for national unity and widespread condemnation of political violence, underscoring the need to prevent such incidents from occurring again. Biden also attempted to contact Trump to check on his condition, expressing relief that Trump was reported to be doing well.

The gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, positioned himself on a rooftop approximately 150 yards away from the rally site. Witnesses reported that Crooks fired multiple shots from an elevated position before being neutralized by Secret Service agents. As of early Sunday morning, the FBI had not determined a motive for the attack.
